Riverside interview

5:17pm, pacific standard time, parking lot in Laguna Niguel, California, USA, Thursday evening, June 30, 2022. Meeting in Riverside went well. Met with the VP of ops and Medical Director. Not sure what the decision will be. If things don’t work out I have the Rancho Cucamonga interview next week. Right now I am tired. Changed clothes and now heading to the apartment. Trying to decide what to have for dinner.

Someplace familiar

5:00pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, Wednesday evening, June 29, 2022. Staying the night in Palm Desert, California before the interview tomorrow in Riverside, California. I haven’t stayed at this hotel in over five years. Back then I would come once a month for regular site visits with a previous company. That was many years ago but, I always liked it here. I considered this hotel my home away from home. It is nice to stay someplace familiar before meeting new people and possibly embarking on a new journey. I am going to go to the evening mixer then grab something for dinner before turning in.

The right job

5:43pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Tuesday night, June 28, 2022. This morning I applied for another position. It involves traveling as an Executive Director Specialist. That means I would camp out at a site for a couple of weeks, or months, until a permanent replacement is found. Truth be told; that is the kind of job I would excel at. I have an interview with the hiring manager but, again, it isn’t until next week. At this point I worry I will be offered the Riverside, California job before I have a chance to explore all options. On one hand, I would be thankful for a job offer. On the other, I want to make sure it is the right job before I commit.

Foreseeable future

4:59pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Monday evening, June 27, 2022. Not much going on today; usual morning routine, took the truck out for a short drive before it got hot, then went out in the afternoon to walk around a couple air-conditioned stores. A friend who has an in with the Rancho Cucamonga team (she knows the hiring manager) texted me to say she thinks I will get a job offer. Unfortunately, there is still a week until the second interview, and that probably isn’t the end of the process. By that time I expect to know one way or the other about the Riverside, California job. Truth be told, I don’t have a preference either way. It would be nice to have a choice since it concerns a large part of my foreseeable future but, if the Riverside job is offered I will take it.

Leftover pizza

5:12pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Sunday evening, June 26, 2022. The recruiter I have been working with for the past month texted again today. He said a meeting could be set for this coming Thursday afternoon in Riverside, California, if I was available. I texted back saying yes, I could be there Thursday afternoon. A shirt while later the hiring manager emailed a calendar invite so, we are good to go for Thursday. I will leave Chandler, Arizona Wednesday morning and stay the night close to the office in Riverside. That way, after the meeting, I can continue on to Orange County, California to celebrate the holiday with family. Other than that today was good; coffee with a friend this morning, a little shopping this afternoon and a lot of leftover pizza for dinner.

Best to be prepared

4:39pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2022. The recruiter I have been working with for the Riverside, California job reached out to me this afternoon, asking when I could be available for a future in-person meeting. I offered a couple days next week and one after the upcoming holiday. He told me things were progressing smoothly and this should be the last step. I am starting to feel confident. So confident that today I began pricing houses and scouting areas to live. It is best to be prepared for any contingency in a situation like this.

Glacier slow

5:25pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Friday evening, June 24, 2022. Two interviews today; first was the fourth in a series with one of the two Riverside, California groups. The meeting went well, good conversation between me and the regional Human Resources Director. From what he shared I am their choice and an offer should be coming by the end of next week. The second interview did not go so well. It was for the other Riverside, California position. There were a lot of red flags with that outfit to begin with (posting and hiring behind someone’s back) and the conversation with the Chief Marketing Officer was less than impressive. I will not move forward with them. No word on the Client Success Executive position. I assume it is a no go but, you never know. Seems employers disappear for days, even weeks, then contact me again out of the blue. Finally, the Rancho Cucamonga, California team got back to me this morning but, they don’t want to meet until the week after next. Crazy. Is it just me or is every hiring process going glacier slow these days? I don’t think I have interviewed this much in my life without getting at least one offer.

Weekend almost here

6:01pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Thursday evening, June 23, 2022. Third interview with one of the Riverside, California groups today. That seemed to go well. I have a fourth interview scheduled for tomorrow with the Vice President of Human Resources. We should have a final in-person interview next week and make a decision then. In the meantime, I have a second interview with the Chief Marketing Officer for the other Riverside, California group tomorrow. Finally, the Rancho Cucamonga, California team got back to me saying they will set up a time for a second interview but, nothing has been set as of yet. I have not heard from the people I would like to work with most for the Client Success Executive role. It would be nice to get an answer one way or the other so I can make a decision when the time comes. On a personal note, my daughter stayed home from summer school today. She said she had a headache but, truth be told, I think she saw an opportunity to get out of going to school and took it. Hopefully she is alright. I am feeling a little under the weather myself so I shouldn’t be too quick to judge. Perhaps the heat getting to me, I don’t know. All I know is I am glad tomorrow is Friday and the weekend is almost here.

Inadvertent scare

5:33pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Wednesday evening, June 22, 2022. Another day, another interview. This one was a brief meeting with a new recruiter concerning a position here in the valley. I said I was willing to move forward but, to be honest, it is not really the right job for me. Also, this afternoon, I wrote follow up emails from yesterdays interviews and scheduled two more meetings for the rest of the week. On a personal note, my daughter’s mom texted this morning saying our daughter was exposed to Covid yesterday. Apparently, there is no concern unless she starts showing symptoms. Of course, as a concerned parent, I texted my daughter to see how she was feeling and to say I was worried about her. She was surprised. Apparently, the information was conveyed to her mom after she had gone to morning summer classes, but my daughter herself had not heard about the situation. The good news is, no issues so far. The bad news, I inadvertently gave her a scare.

Ready to be over

6:21am, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Tuesday evening, June 21, 2022. First interview this morning was interesting. Talked with the company CEO. He asked questions about high school, my brother, parents etc. He seemed more interested in chatting than discussing the job. On one hand it was relaxed but, on the other, not very productive. The second interview today was late afternoon, 3:30pm. It was for the job in Rancho Cucamonga, California . I had low expectations but, turned out to be the best meeting of the day. Still in the initial stages with that one so more to come. The 3rd, and last, interview, was directly after the second. It went alright. A one-on-one with a corporate clinical leader. Not necessarily insightful but, not terrible. For the rest of the week I have; an initial meeting 9am tomorrow with. Recruiter about a position here in Phoenix, a third interview Thursday morning with one of the Riverside groups, and potentially an interview Friday with the other Riverside, California group. To be honest, it is all very confusing, and slightly frustrating. I am ready for the process to be over.
