Commit to the goal of growth. There are only three options in life; get better, stay the same or get worse. Constantly striving to improve will break your heart but it is better than the other two.

High gear
I found the gear for Objective Focused Growth (OFG) when I was pushed to the edge of sanity and decided to fight instead of flee.
Someone pushed me to that edge. I could not or would not have reached it on my own.
I resent them.
And I thank them.
Objective Focused Growth
Have you ever wanted to make a change but were not sure how? Or perhaps you started to make a change but it didn’t stick. Do you feel the desire to accomplish more but not sure what that means or how to get started?
All of us feel we have more potential, that life could offer more. We see people living lives that are larger, more fulfilling but we are not unsure how to get to it or unlock our full capability. This blog is about change and how to achieve it. It does this through explaining objective focused growth.
Do not be ruled by toys
Staying focused on the objective is a second to second thing. Your mind will wander at any moment and re-prioritize your energy. Oftentimes that re-prioritization feels justified. At work you seek fair treatment. You look for commiseration from peers or validation from bosses. You seek respect, benefit of the doubt, accolades, recognition, awards or prizes. All of those things feel valuable. But they distract from achieving your objective. Do not pull up short of your objective. Do not be ruled by toys.
The Dream Addiction
The dopamine high is one of the biggest traps I fall into. I start to work on my project. I come up with a good idea. Once I feel I am right on the verge of achieving my dreams my body floods with dopamine. I get the best high possible.
I got my fix. So instead of pressing on and achieving my objective I stay in the moment, relishing the feeling of satisfaction without really achieving anything until the high wears off then I go start working on my objective again but pulling up when I get another high. It is the dream addiction.
Rewire your brain
can you see the circles in this picture?
At first it is difficult. You might not even be able to do it. Then you might see them but they disappear quickly. But if you find them and keep looking at the picture your brain will more easily identify them and focus on them longer.
The same is true of focusing on your goal. It is there but difficult to identify. Or it might be fleeting.
After a while you get better at it and can stay focused.
Impenetrable wall
Doubt assails relentlessly. Brick by brick a wall of unshakable confidence is erected. That wall creates a foundation. That foundation sustains forward motion to achieve an objective. Doubt will always be present and rise against. For every inch ceded take two forward the next time. Achieving your objective is methodical not easy or instantaneous.
Transformation
The ability to reach your objective comes from the most desperate, scared, panic induced time of your existence.
When you feel like you will actually be destroyed the only answer is forward.
Stress will eat you alive. Stay in it.
When you have to let go, breathe, blank out your mind, re charge then go back.
Stay longer than before.
Find it again. Stay longer.
Transform and condition your mind to be someone better than you ever thought possible.
Re Firing Energy
Giving up, giving in, accepting an outcome other than my objective is infuriatingly seductive.
The slightest tinge of resistance sends me into deep stagnation.
I fritter the day away with pity filled vignettes where I cast myself a wronged but valiant warrior.
Logically I can see the futility of this behavior but the emotions are unbelievably powerful.
The only way to save myself in that instance is to forcibly will myself to do at least one tiny minuscule simple task toward my objective in hopes of re firing my energy in the proper direction.
The battle to do even that is monumental and exhausting. I am ashamed to admit oftentimes I fail.
Conditioned for Specific Results
A sports team has one objective, to win a championship. Failure to do so immediately or quickly usually results in dismissal of personnel. Every once in a while subjective metrics or barriers perceived out of the norm will buy time but the quest for a championship is a zero sum business. Achieve the objective or be replaced.
The same is true for most sales people, corporate officers or any business in general. The specific objective of sales, revenue and profit must be achieved or you will be dismissed and replaced.
In order to achieve the results you wish your mind must be conditioned to not only exist but thrive in a high pressure situation that demands specific results.
