Made it to palm desert, January 23, 2023

6:03pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Monday evening, January 23, 2023. Drove in from Arizona this afternoon. The wind was strong, especially on the California side of the border. Many times larger trucks swerved uncontrollably. Coupled with blowing dust the trip was far from relaxing. I made it to the office at 3:30pm and did some work before grabbing dinner and checking in to the hotel. Now I just got off the phone with mom. I am going to watch television and read before turning in for the night.

Eventually all things are lost

6:41pm, mountain standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Sunday evening, January 22, 2023. There is a finite amount of time left in Arizona. I am struggling to say goodbye. I can’t stay but, letting go is difficult. A part of me exists here that doesn’t subsist anywhere else; waking up in my apartment, going for walks, exercising in the gym and drinking coffee while watching the weather. It is the best start to a morning I have ever experienced. Now the opportunities do those things are dwindling. Life is like that; you celebrate times and then let them go. It was just announced the minor league baseball team in Salt Lake City, Utah is moving to the suburbs. They are going to tear down the stadium in the area where I have watched games since I was nine years old. So many memories with my brother, my dad, my family exist in that ballpark. It is sad to see it go but, time marches on. Eventually all things fade and are lost. We have no choice but to enjoy them while we can and miss them when they are no longer here.

Baseball mitts

6:35pm, mountain standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Saturday evening, January 21, 2023. Enjoyed a low key day in the apartment. Ran some errands this afternoon but, nothing too ambitious. I needed time to rejuvenate after a long week. I was going to meet a friend for dinner tonight but canceled. I didn’t have the desire nor energy to go out. On another note; my daughter is starting baseball next week. I dug our mitts out of storage and have been breaking them in. So far, so good. I haven’t played catch in years and never with her. I am excited to get back out there and to share that experience with her.

Back in Arizona, January 20, 2023

3:37pm, mountain standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Friday afternoon, January 20, 2023. Made it back to Arizona. Things were slow enough at work I could leave before noon. After a quick stop to fuel up I headed east. The drive was smooth, no traffic or major accidents. I was able to relax, listen to music and enjoy the desert scenery. It is so nice to be back in Arizona right now. My apartment in feels like home, at least for a couple days. I missed my couch, tv, bed, clothes, etc. Now I am going to do a little cleaning before getting dinner and spending the night watching movies.

Dana Point, California redux

5:58pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Monday evening, January 16, 2023. I have mixed feelings about moving back to Dana Point. On one hand, it is the most home like place I know in the world, having lived there for eleven years. On the other hand, the time there wasn’t always great. Often I struggled to justify the stress it took to be a resident, both financially and emotionally. When I packed up the condo two years ago and moved to Arizona I made peace with goodbye. I knew it was time for change. Of course the process was easier with my daughter and her mom still living in the area. I enjoyed visiting Dana Point on weekends without the baggage of citizenship. Now that I am moving back I worry about falling into old thought patterns. Arizona was good for me. I became a newer, better version of myself. I want to continue the process of evolving. I guess time will tell if Dana Point redux promotes or hinders my journey of personal growth.

Sunday, January 15, 2023 in Orange County, California

Beach at San Clemente State Park, San Clemente, California

4:46pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Aliso Viejo, California, USA, Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2023. My daughter, her friend and her mom joined me for breakfast with my cousin and her family in Dana Point this morning. We met them at the harbor because they were coming from San Clemente. Afterwards, we went to the beach to build sand castles and continue our visit. Even though the sky we still managed to have a good time. This afternoon I drove to San Juan, signed the lease on my new apartment and paid the deposit. I will get the keys middle of next month and move my stuff back from Arizona a little later. Now we are relaxing and cooking dinner before the week begins tomorrow.

Upcoming move and a trip to Arizona

4:42pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2023. I left the office early this afternoon but decided not to drive west. Instead, I am staying an extra night in Palm Desert before driving to Orange County tomorrow. I am taking the next two days off from work because my daughter’s school is hosting a film fest tomorrow night in the city of Orange and I don’t want to miss it. Then on Friday I am focusing solely on finding the right community for my upcoming move. I have narrowed down my choices and know the area I want to live. I need to determine the best community and lock it down. That way I can move my stuff back to California and establish residency again. On a side note; I think I will head to Arizona next weekend. It has been a while since I visited and to tell the truth, I kind of miss it.

Getting serious about the move

6:09pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Thursday night, January 5, 2023. Time to start getting serious about the move to California. I need to establish residency for my drivers license renewal so I booked an apartment tour this coming Saturday in Lake Forest. I don’t know much about the area other than it seems nice and is close to my daughter and her mom without being too close. Besides, I won’t be there very often what with traveling for work and all. I can’t believe how much things have changed recently. Not even two years ago I knew nothing about Arizona or what job I would have. Now, that time is coming to an end.

Preparing for regional team visit

6:45pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Monday night, December 5, 2022. Drove to Palm Desert from Arizona this afternoon. After briefly checking in at the office I left to shop for snacks. The regional team is visiting the next couple of days and they need food for breaks. I am glad they are coming but, it adds another layer of stress. We still haven’t fully recovered from the rebranding events of last week. Oh well, it is only two days. I am sure we will find a way manage.

Made me a little sad

3:16pm, mountain standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2022. It was still raining this morning when I woke up so I walked on a treadmill at the gym instead of exercising outside. Later, when it stopped raining, I went for a walk through the neighborhood. The skies have been grey this weekend, which is unusual for Arizona. The gloom makes me introspective. There are only a handful of weekends I will be here before permanently moving back to California. Yesterday, I stopped by the office to let them know I won’t be renewing my lease. I am glad I took care of that detail but, to tell you the truth, it made me a little sad.
