Sleep and recuperate

2:14pm, pacific standard time, Sacramento, California, USA airport. Thursday afternoon, September 29, 2022. Last night I started feeling under the weather. Rather than go to the office this morning I worked from the hotel, then drove to the Sacramento airport. My flight to San Diego boards soon, then I connect to Phoenix. I should be in my apartment by 8:30pm. I need to sleep the entire weekend and recuperate.

To fruition

6:13pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Monday evening, June 6, 2022. The virtual interview went well this morning. However, there could be an issue with a contract. They have a non-hire clause with the company I previously worked for. It unfortunately may be a dealbreaker. On different note, I did not hear back from San Diego. That is alright. I realize everyday I don’t want to go back to that role. This morning I saw new possibilities; moving back to California, taking the job I interviewed for today and doing PRN chaplain work to make up the salary difference. I have seen the solution, now I just need to bring it to fruition.

Clarity coming

3:59pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Friday afternoon, June 3, 2022. The people from San Diego reached out today. Weirdest thing; they insinuated an offer would be made, but didn’t make one. Not sure what the hold up may be, guess I will find out next week. The recruiter for the Senior leadership job in Orange County touched base again. I don’t think that is a job worth pursuing, for many reasons. Finally, the position I find most intriguing, the support for the electronic medical record company, also reached out today. We set up an interview time for Monday morning. Things are starting to come together. Next week should provide clarity.

Bring back memories

4:10pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Thursday afternoon, June 2, 2022. Three interviews today. The first was most interesting. It was for a job to support providers using a specific electronic medical record (EMR) product. The position requires operational knowledge I possess but, it isn’t what I have typically done in the past. I am going to continue to pursue it. The second call was about the San Diego opportunity. It seemed to go alright but, I am the process has been so slow I am not sure anything will come of it. They seem to change what they want/need every time we talk. The third and final call was for a senior leadership role in sales. Ironically, it was a position I held in the past for the same company ten years ago. I don’t expect to pursue it very aggressively but, it did bring back memories from long ago.

Arrived in Dana Point

5:04pm, pacific standard time, post office parking lot, Dana Point, California, USA, Friday evening, May 27, 2022. Decided to leave early for California to beat holiday traffic. Came through San Diego, which was actually faster this time. I told everyone I was getting in around seven. For some reason I don’t want to show up early. Maybe I will try and get a haircut.

Always look forward, never back

5:26pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Tuesday evening, May 24, 2022. The hiring director for the job in San Diego contacted me today. I have a virtual interview with Senior Leadership next Thursday. In addition, I was contacted for a different position this afternoon. It would require more travel and commitment but, at a much higher salary. Either way, I will return to California and be close to my daughter. I accept whatever outcome fate offers me. Always look forward, never back.

A lot has changed

3:30pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Monday afternoon, May, 16, 2022. After I got home yesterday I took a nap, then went out to watch basketball at a local sports bars. It was nice to leave the house and be social. Tomorrow I have a panel interview for the job in San Diego. It is strange; when I talked with the hiring manager last week I was a fully employed candidate looking to move home. Now, I am a laid off employee looking for a job anywhere I can get it. A lot has changed in a short period of time.

San Diego update

5:21am, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022. Yesterday was the second interview for the job in San Diego; this time with the hiring manager. Our conversation was engaging, lasting longer than the time allotted for the call; which is typically a good sign. He told me I would advance to the next round and that a recruiter would be reaching out for appointment times. At this point, there are likely four interviews to go; perhaps fewer, if some are done as a group or in panel format. Depending on their urgency and desire to fill the position quickly, I should know a definitive outcome by the end of next week.

Vacillate

5:21am, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Friday morning, May 6, 2022. The interview for the Director position in San Diego, California went fine yesterday, just a preliminary phone screen to discuss qualifications and work history. I will know more next week. In the meantime my chaplain endorsement is falling into place. One more colleague needs to complete a reference letter. Once that is done I will have an interview with the governing board and be submitted as a candidate. I constantly vacillate between my stressful, yet lucrative, career path and returning to being a Chaplain.

Excited about the possibility

5:29am, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Thursday morning, May 5, 2022. At 11am a recruiter is calling me in regards to a job opening in San Diego, California. It would be a lateral move but, things in Phoenix have been stagnate for a while and aren’t getting better any time soon. I am excited about the possibility of taking on a new challenge. A change in scenery can be very reinvigorating.
