6:34pm, pacific standard time, hotel in Palm Desert, California, USA, Monday night, December 19, 2022. The family is still a little under the weather today. I stopped by this morning to walk the dog and drop off tea before driving to Palm Desert. My daughter and her friend were asleep but, her mom was in the living room watching television. She was thankful I was able to help before departing for the week. I got out of Orange County at noon and arrived at 2:30pm. My mom is with me this trip. I thought I booked a suite with a separate bedroom but there isn’t much privacy. We are going to share the room to save money but we might have to rebook. I am getting too old to sleep on the pullout couch in a hotel room and neither of us are keen on sharing a sleeping space.

Made me a little sad
3:16pm, mountain standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2022. It was still raining this morning when I woke up so I walked on a treadmill at the gym instead of exercising outside. Later, when it stopped raining, I went for a walk through the neighborhood. The skies have been grey this weekend, which is unusual for Arizona. The gloom makes me introspective. There are only a handful of weekends I will be here before permanently moving back to California. Yesterday, I stopped by the office to let them know I won’t be renewing my lease. I am glad I took care of that detail but, to tell you the truth, it made me a little sad.
After time, it will feel like home
4:58pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Aliso Viejo, California, USA, Sunday evening, November 27, 2022. Took a walk with the doggo down to the local community park this morning. There wasn’t much to it except for an open field and a large dog run. The dog run is a great find, if ever there is a need to burn off excess energy. We continued on in the opposite direction to explore the neighborhood more. Further up the road was another park, accessed only by a steep pathway. The climb was exhausting. However, the path looped back to the complex next door, which was fortuitous; it saved us from having to backtrack down the hill and climb the first road back to the apartment. The area is not as beautiful as Dana Point but, I am sure after time, it will feel like home.
If only
5:23pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Tuesday evening, August 9, 2022. Went for a walk this morning after a heavy rain last night. Then had a coffee appointment at 9am with a salesperson for the company I am joining. After that I pretty much wrote all day with a quick break to workout. If only everyday could be like today.
Just a Sunday
6:41pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Sunday evening, July 10, 2022. Nothing special today. Went for a walk in the morning, watched a movie before lunch then took a nap. In the afternoon I drove around a little, bought a new hat at the mall, then picked up some groceries. After that I came home and had dinner. Going to read a little bit then turn in for the night.
Pizza was the choice
6:37pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA, Saturday night, July 2, 2022. Went for a walk early this morning. So early, the dog and I fell back asleep upon returning. Later, I put together a storage chest to hold beach equipment then took my daughter to lunch. In the afternoon we drive around looking at apartments in the area (my daughter’s mom is deciding whether to renew the lease) and then ran errands. Pizza was the choice for dinner. Now I am going to eat a bowl of ice cream.
Foreseeable future
4:59pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Chandler, Arizona, USA, Monday evening, June 27, 2022. Not much going on today; usual morning routine, took the truck out for a short drive before it got hot, then went out in the afternoon to walk around a couple air-conditioned stores. A friend who has an in with the Rancho Cucamonga team (she knows the hiring manager) texted me to say she thinks I will get a job offer. Unfortunately, there is still a week until the second interview, and that probably isn’t the end of the process. By that time I expect to know one way or the other about the Riverside, California job. Truth be told, I don’t have a preference either way. It would be nice to have a choice since it concerns a large part of my foreseeable future but, if the Riverside job is offered I will take it.
Sunday May 29
6:11pm, pacific standard time, Dana Point, California, USA, Sunday evening, May 29, 2022. Woke up around 4:30am, took the dog for a walk, got coffee and dog treats, then came home to read articles online. At 9am I went for a quick work out, followed by some grocery shopping and a good bathroom cleaning. This afternoon we visited friends for a small get together and bbq. Now we are home relaxing for the rest of the evening.
Day six of vacation
8:53am, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA, Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022, day six of vacation. We got back home from the theme park last night just before ten pm and went to bed shortly thereafter. The trip was exhausting but, overall, extremely fun. I had a generalized plan to sleep in this morning but, our dog was eager wake up and explore; probably because we missed our walk yesterday. I did make the decision to cut the walk short because my legs were still sore. Nonetheless, this morning has been productive. It isn’t 9am yet and I have had two cups of coffee, loaded the dishwasher and started three loads of laundry.
Recap: first three days of vacation
2:09 am, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA, Saturday morning, April 16, 2022, first day of vacation. A triage call from work woke me up at 1am. A patient was having an issue and our nurse was not picking up. I called the caregiver and the situation is managed. I tried multiple times to get a hold of the nurse as well. Thankfully, we have a new clinical manager to address things like this. The drive on Friday went well. No major issues or traffic.Getting out early in the day helped immensely. Saturday, April 17, 2022, Dana Point, California, USA, second day of vacation. Took care of some work issues in the morning, went and grabbed burgers in the afternoon with my daughter then, in the evening all three of us got caramel apples and went clothes shopping. 7:58am, in the apartment, Dana Point, California, USA, Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, third day of vacation. The dog and I went for a walk, got coffee, then bought Easter lilies and cards for the girls.
