Flooding

February 5, 2024, Monday night, 7:09pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. The rain finally let up after almost 24 hours straight. it is supposed to rain more tomorrow. They had to put sandbags outside my patio to keep it from flooding. I did a load of laundry this afternoon and was greeted by two small frogs when I opened the door. Even they were trying to find a dry place to rest.

Low key

February 4, 2024, Sunday night, 10:47pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Very low key day. Slept in, went for a walk, took my daughter to Jamba Juice, hung out while her mom went shopping then came back to Dana Point before the big storm hit. It hasn’t been as bad as expected. I went to bed early but woke up to use the bathroom. It is drizzling but not the ‘life threatening’ storm predicted.

Drinks in Corona

February 3, 2024, Saturday night, 11:56pm, pacific standard time, apartment complex parking lot, Dana Point, California, USA. Drove out to Corona this evening after dinner to meet a friend for drinks at the Lazy Dog Restaurant. We had a good conversation. She talked about coming to Dana Point next weekend. I think that would be good. It will be nice to have a visitor for a little bit.

Bosses last day

February 2, 2024, Friday night, 8:23pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. made it through the week. Today was my bosses last day. It has been hard. She was integral to my success the last year and half. She did tell me who her replacement is. Ironically I interviewed with him for a different company before I took this job. I thought we connected so I am excited we will work together. I still think the year will go well, it will just different than I expected.

Rearranging furniture

February 1, 2024, Thursday night, 6:30pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. It rained hard this morning. Since my schedule was light I took it as an opportunity to rearrange furniture. When I moved back last year I purposefully left many boxes unpacked. Truth is, I was mourning my comfortable space in Arizona and consequently avoiding change. But now that I have had more visitors recently I see how impractical the layout was, especially in the bed room. So I moved storage bins around and pushed the bed closer to the far wall. That freed up open space between the bedroom and bathroom. All in all I am pleased with the results. The room feels bigger and more welcoming.

Came home

January 31, 2024, Wednesday night, 7:08pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Drove to San Bernardino today for meetings with the marketing team. Afterwards I stayed and caught up with corporate visitors. I didn’t leave the office until after 5pm. I had packed an overnight bag just in case but decided to drive home instead of getting a hotel. I probably should have stayed the night. The drive was long, traffic was bad and gps took me all over the place. Now I am grouchy. Tomorrow I will appreciate the fact I came home early but for now I am annoyed.

Tuesday

January 30, 2024, Tuesday evening, 7:14pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Drove to Vista this morning for a business development meeting. Afterwards, I stopped by Aliso Viejo to see my daughter and eat dinner. When I got home I called my friend and talked to her while she drove to Orange County. I really like her on many levels but at the same time am a little put off. Oh well, it is nothing serious. At least it is good to be energized by someone.

Remembering Arizona

January 29, 2024, Monday afternoon, waiting to pick my daughter up from school, 3:44pm, pacific standard time, parking lot in Laguna Hills, California, USA. Three years ago today I accepted a job offer in Phoenix, Arizona. Three weeks later I moved into my apartment in Chandler and kept it for two years. I worked there for 15 months, job hunted for three, then spent 7 months visiting occasionally as travel for this job allowed. the two years I lived there are such a nexus between past and present me. Everything in my relationship with place, work, people changed, mostly for the better. Arizona wasn’t perfect but it does sit well in my heart. I think about it often and am thankful for what it has meant to me all this time.

Sunday

January 28, 2024, Sunday night, 8:02pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Went to lunch at the Stillwater restaurant in Dana Point with my fries I saw Friday. After eating, we walked through the park and back up Golden Lantern to Del Prado. She had to head back home before it got too late so we weren’t together very long but we did see each other twice this weekend. It is nothing serious, she wants to date after getting out of a long relationship. But I do enjoy being with her. She isn’t going to have free time next weekend and is traveling the weekend after so we won’t see each other for a while.

Balanced out

January 27, 2024, Saturday afternoon, 3:29pm, pacific standard time, parking lot, office building, Laguna Niguel,California, USA. I dropped my daughter off to meet a friend at the Aliso Viejo town center. To kill time before picking her up I went to the gym then the grocery store. I was hungry so I put a little snack tray in my shopping cart along with two big plastic water containers. Since the containers were heavy I didn’t lift them and used the handheld scanner instead. After getting to the car I realized I failed to scan the snack tray. I thought about going back to pay but was too embarrassed so I decided not to. Then when I went to eat the snack I noticed the meat looked funny. Turns out the tray expired a month ago. The universe has a way of balancing out.
