August 9,2026, Sunday morning, 9:22, pacific standard time, John Wayne Airport, Santa Ana, California, USA. Woke up this morning and did the blue lantern walk. Then I took a quick nap before packing. I got done early so made a dent in putting away some of mom’s boxes to clear out the living room. Then I took a Lyft to the airport. Now I finished a cheese and sausage pack and drinking an americano from Coffee bean and tea leaf. 3:27pm: Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. flight was quick and easy. Got my bag, caught the shuttle, checked in around 1:30pm. I have lazed in my room all afternoon. The gym is only open 7 to 7 so not sure how often I will go. I will probably just walk around outside for workouts. Receptionist starts at six pm.

August 8,2026,Saturday afternoon,1:17pm, pacific standard time,apartment in Dana Point, California,USA. Just received notice I was upgraded to first class on my Vegas flight tomorrow. Not sure how that came about but I am grateful and happy. I am in the midst of packing and laundry. I can’t wait to have a room to myself and be out of town. I need a change of scenery for a moment.

August 7,2026, Friday afternoon, 4:51pm, pacific standard time, office in Costa Mesa, California,USA. The work week is winding down. I am counting the minutes before leaving and working out. On Sunday we head out for the clinical leadership conference. I appreciate how special it is that I have been a part of creating sacred space in this office. I will enjoy it until it inevitably ends.

August 6,2026,Thursday afternoon, 2:40pm, pacific standard time, office in Costa Mesa, California,USA. Today is IDT and went to a long lunch meeting at OC Global Hospital. It was good to get out but I am feeling drained. These meeting days always wipe me out. I am fighting to stay present rather than look ahead to quitting time.

August 5,2026, Wednesday morning, 2:53am, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Yesterday after work I stopped by Aliso to see my daughter. We ordered Panera for the family, picked it up, then headed to Dana Point for her to drop me off and take the car. When I unpacked my belongings she headed off on her first solo drive. That moment was indelible. Seeing her taste a new level of freedom and set out on her own flipped reality. She no longer needs me to explore the world. Maybe I am being dramatic but it certainly felt like a massive moment for both of us.

August 4,2026, Tuesday afternoon, 3:30pm, pacific standard time, office in Costa Mesa, California,USA. Received a nice bonus this morning. That is always a plus. Next week I am out of the office Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be good to get away and gain perspective but a little stressful since the rest of our leadership team will be with me. my daughter is eager to get “her car.” The plan is for her to drop me off tonight and drive home solo. She wanted to go out with her friend last night but since she isn’t 18 she can’t drive with someone under 20 alone in the car.

August 3,2026, Monday evening, 5:52pm, pacific standard time, gym at office complex in Costa Mesa, California,USA. I am walking on the treadmill after work and happened upon my blog entry from four years ago. Tonight I am remembering the last time family visited Arizona in 2022 and how much I was looking forward to my new job. Otherwise today has been fine. Busy work day. Of course now they are all like that. A by product of success.

August 02,2026, Sunday afternoon, 2:26pm, pacific standard time, regal cinema, theater 7, Aliso Viejo, California, USA. Woke up at 5:30am this morning and walked to Los Rios. Then I took the dog for a walk in Aliso before heading back to Dana point. I threw in a load of laundry then took mom to Albertsons to buy fruit, water and Smirnoff. After lunch and a nap I decided to come to the movies and buy a ticket for whatever was showing at the time. That ended up being a show called “I want your sex” at 2:45pm. The theater is empty. I was only the third person to buy a ticket for it. And I am so early the pre-show ads have yet to start. I don’t know anything about this movie. Should be interesting.

August 1,2025,Saturday afternoon,2:52pm, pacific standard time, apartment in Dana Point, California, USA. Walked blue lantern this morning, worked out at planet fitness, drank coffee at Starbucks. Cleaned the kitty litter (which was a mess), went to Costco to get paper towels, wine and litter. Got Starbucks for mom. Drove around a bit. Came home. Did laundry, napped, showered, walked to the harbor. First time in fourteen years I used the pedestrian bridge.
